For Hermann Sons Life, “We Strengthen Community” is not just a motto. As a member benefit society, we exist to serve our members and communities all over the state.

In 2016 we adopted grief support as our focused service cause. Already known for our awesome Camp, it only made sense to find a partner and offer a Grief Support Camp to children dealing with the loss of a loved one.

In 2017 we made a connection with the Children’s Bereavement Center and the first Grief Support Camp was held that summer. There were 38 children at the session that year. The number jumped to 64 for 2018.

At a meeting to plan the 2019 session, we learned that the Children’s Bereavement Center was actually at a point three years ago where it was looking for a camp to partner with. God truly had a hand in bringing us together and we have enjoyed this partnership and hope to continue it for years to come.

The goal of the program is that the campers do not have to pay to attend. Support from our lodges and members made that possible for the first two years and we are eternally grateful. But the fund-raising must continue on an annual basis.

For this year we have planned the Healing Hearts Casino Night. It will be held May 4, Join Hands Day, at Hilltop Camp in Comfort. I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from lodges, individuals and merchants that have already come forward to assist us in this effort. They have paid to sponsor one of the gaming tables and donated some truly awesome prizes.

We decided to hold the event at Hilltop Camp for two reasons.

First, this way we don’t have to pay to rent a facility. That means more of the money raised will do directly to the Grief Support Camp.

Second, we are making an effort to hold fund-raisers like this one in communities all over the state – not just in San Antonio where the Home Office is located. Where better to hold an event benefitting our Grief Support Camp than in the community that supports our Camp year-round?

Only 150 tickets will be sold so that there is plenty of room for everyone. We are hoping for a sell-out so buy your tickets NOW! For $50 you will enjoy a steak dinner and receive $1,000 in playing chips. A cash bar will be available and there will be door prizes and a silent auction.
